Thinking About Technocracy

Where to from here?

The Long Now Foundation

with 3 comments

In addition to my technocracy pantheon, I’m going to start a list of organizations that appear to do worthwhile work in the field of applying technocratic ideals.  My first inductee, The Long Now Foundation.

Please add/nominate others in the comments.

  1. There is no connection what so ever to that group and technocratic ideas. Technate design revolves around

    and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_economics

Also the blog in question is just another Price System disinformation org… and there is no shortage of them.
They are in the business of ”selling” for money. Not real information.

  2. I think it is good for dialogue to exist around the meaning and intent of the word, technocracy. I’ll continue to define it as I mean it. Other organizations, entities or commentators are certainly encouraged to lay out whatever criteria or definitions they think appropriate.

If The Long Now is not technocratic, then I am clearly misnaming my blog. I’m not planning on changing the name. But I certainly encourage debate on the topic.

I accept that there are serious problems with the pricing system. I’ve read Veblen. I don’t agree with most of the rubbish he wrote, but he made some good points. I also understand the concept of peak oil. Those issues are trees in the forest. I’m certainly no objectivist, and debating terms really seems quite 19th century to me. I’m much more interested in outcomes.

  3. Well… I can guarantee a bad outcome using the present system… which also confuses terms.

Its fine to paw the ground… but it does bring lots of dust up.

Veblen wrote … The theory of the leisure class… and coined the term ‘conspicuous consumption’. Also … The Engineers and the Price System.
He is also featured here for a reason..
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_economic_thought

The reason being he was considered a notable and very important person in the field of economics… who embraced the actual concepts of the technate design, and was a member of the Technical Alliance… and no, he did not embrace someones opinion of how they care, or wish, to define words or concepts.

Peak oil is trees in the forest? Ha ha. Thats funny. You are in for a rude awakening. Crude awakening.
