Genetic Atlas of Rice
Yale has published a massive 5 year analysis on the genetics of rice and made it widely available.
Community Informatics and Technocracy
One higher education innovation worth emulating is a move toward community information or community informatics degrees and projects. Illinois has one here. I’ve followed the one at the University of Michigan for some time. It can be found here.
Higher Education and Technocracy
One of the bigger topics I hope to take on is the appropriate role of higher education in technocracy. I’ll make it its own category because I anticipate putting a lot down on the topic. I’ve worked on and thought about this area for more than 20 years. Certainly most who do work with the field as I have see the topic as one of lost opportunity, poor performance and little hope. I’m not sure I totally agree; neither do I think things are rosy at the academy. Most state institutions simply don’t accept their role as being part of the state. They need to do so throughout the institution, not just in agriculture or medicine. But the details are for a different set of posts.
I’d be grateful for links and thoughts on the role of universities in technocracy–however the term might be understood.
